PM Modi Slams ‘Vintage Congress Culture’ Amid Lawyer’s Concerns, Congress Hits Back

top-news

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Congress party, labeling their tactics as a ‘vintage Congress culture,’ following a letter from over 600 lawyers to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, expressing concerns about a specific interest group’s actions. Notable lawyers like senior advocate Harish Salve and Bar Council of India chairman Manan Kumar Mishra were among the signatories of the letter addressed to the CJI.

In a Twitter post, PM Modi accused the Congress of employing bullying tactics, highlighting their historical demand for a ‘committed judiciary’ while pursuing selfish interests. He underscored the rejection of such practices by 140 crore Indians, alluding to the upcoming elections.

In response, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh countered PM Modi’s remarks, criticizing his tenure for division, distortion, diversion, and defamation. Ramesh pointed out recent Supreme Court verdicts, including the ruling against the Electoral Bonds Scheme, which the court deemed unconstitutional, highlighting alleged misuse by the BJP.

The lawyers’ letter raised concerns about a specific interest group pressuring judicial outcomes, particularly in cases involving political figures and corruption allegations. They accused the group of creating false narratives, bench-fixing, and attacking judges’ honor, calling for protective measures to maintain judiciary integrity.

The timing of these tactics, especially during election periods, drew scrutiny, with the lawyers cautioning against efforts to manipulate courts for personal or political gains, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the judiciary’s independence and credibility.

The exchange between PM Modi and Congress reflects ongoing political tensions, with each side pointing fingers and asserting their stance on judicial integrity and accountability.
